Tebogo Thekisho most popularly known as ProVerb, host and co-producer of South African Idols, hails from the Diamond Capital of the world, Kimberley in the Northern Cape. He carved a name for himself as a budding Emcee after winning a few rap competitions on Radio, and even appearing as a contestant on Jam Alley in ‘ After completing his diploma in Sound Engineering, he landed a job at Yfm as Technical Producer for DJ Fresh , and secured a TV Presenting spot on Channel O, hosting a Hip-Hop segment called “Head-Rush.”
ProVerb released his debut album “The Book of ProVerb” in , which to date is considered a classic in the Hip-Hop Community. This was followed by four other albums, a mixtape, DVD and countless collaborations in a music career that would span two decades and yield two awards. One for “Hustler of the Year ” and another for “Verse of the year ”
His Radio career would see him move to Metro Fm, where he launched his on-air career, followed by a slot at Highveld Stereo (now ) before settling at Kaya Fm where he hosts two radio shows, namely: The Kayasette – Fridays 12 to 3pm and The Winner’s Circle – Saturdays 11 to 2pm. ‘I wanted to end it all’: ProVerb gets candid in tell-all memoir
He told the Sunday Times that the book is not about his suicide attempt or his divorce, but rather how he survived a dark period in his life.
He speaks candidly about his battle with depression, his relationship with his late mother and his grandmother, who died this year.
“In my personal life I have found peace and this is the biggest takeaway that I hope many will receive from the book. My victory against depression and dark times, I hope, will show others that there is light, and I sincerely felt that my story was well timed as depression is rife in our society, so perhaps this will stimulate conversations and offer some hope,” he said.

Rapper and producer of the singing competition Idols SA Tebogo Thekisho, popularly known by his stage name Proverb, has recently burst with pride after revealing that he has a sister who is excelling in her career as an actress on the international stage.
While being in the limelight and having a private life can be a difficult challenge, the Legacy hitmaker has done a good job separating his personal life from the entertainment scene – so much so that many were shocked to discover that he has a sibling doing great things in the world of acting.
The musician recently made a guest appearance on the King David Podcast where he shared that he had multiple siblings, from both sides of the family. Speaking to the podcast host David he said that one of his sisters is an Emmy-nominated actress.
“So, I have a little sister, Tumelo and an elder brother, Mpho. I used to have an even elder brother, but he passed on. And then Mpho and I have a sister, Lerato, who’s an actress.”
When David asked if she was from his father’s side of the family, the Metro FM broadcaster explained that that is where things become complicated.
