Mahatma Gandhi was a prominent Indian political leader who was a leading figure in the campaign for Indian independence. He employed non-violent principles and peaceful disobedience as a means to achieve his goal. He was assassinated in , shortly after achieving his life goal of Indian independence. Where were you born?
I am originally from a small town in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado called Evergreen. We lived on a ranch while I was small. When I was six we moved to Washington and I was raised in Juanita near Kirkland on the east side. How did you discover your passion for belly dance?
I would collect LPs from around the world when I was in high school. Among these were some crazy albums with covers of ladies in pasties. I had no idea what belly dancing was, but I liked the music. I also had the whole collection of Feiruz albums and a vintage Yemenite-Israili album album from belly dance was offered at the University of Washington Experimental College. I thought of either taking belly dancing or Greek folk dancing. My brother said I should opt for belly dancing as it might help me lose weight.

This three day intensive workshop will be June , , from 10am to 5pm daily with an hour break for lunch. There will be guest teachers for an hour each day to teach about Afro Louisiana culture, dance and music.
The weekend will include technique, culture, dance philosophy, and much more. Tamalyn will teach 10am-1pm, break for lunch and resume at 2pm daily for an experiential workshop by a different local New Orleans culture bearer each day, each with something unique to share. We will experience optional evenings of New Orleans cuisine, jazz, and other events that will be happening in town. In , when Islamaphobia was rampant and fear was driving Americans to not question wars, Tamalyn decided to travel to five Muslim countries, meet local people and see if such fears were warranted. When a reporter she met was looking for suicide bomber schools (and not finding them), Tamalyn was eating food food, going to weddings, and listening to incredible music.
The premise was to spend 40 days in each of 5 Musim countries: Indonesia, Egypt's Siwa Oasis, Zanzibar, Jordan and The Xinjiang Autonomous Region of China, and write a journal of her experiences, as a woman alone, a dancer, and an American.
