‘वस्त्रहरण’ धुमशान घालता हा! नुकताच पार पडला नाटकाचा ५,२५५वा प्रयोग

vastraharan natak: ‘‘नाट्यरसिकांका एक धोक्याची सूचना, नाटक ऐकताना तुम्ही ज्यावेळी हशशाल त्यावेळी तुमचा वस्त्रहरण झाला तर त्येची जबाबदारी आमच्यावर नाय हां’असं सांगत ज्येष्ठ अभिनेते मच्छिंद्र कांबळी यांनी नाट्यरसिकांना ‘वस्त्रहरण’मधून खळखळून हसवलं. रसिकांच्या मनात आगळंवेगळं स्थान निर्माण करणाऱ्या ‘वस्त्रहरण’ या नाटकाला यंदा १६ फेब्रुवारी रोजी ४४ वर्षं पूर्ण झाली.
एक काळ मराठी रंगभूमी गाजवलेल्या ‘वस्त्रहरण’ या नाटकानं पुनरागमन केलं आहे. या नाटकाचा ५,२५५वा प्रयोग अलीकडेच ठाण्याच्या गडकरी रंगायतन येथे तुफान प्रतिसादासह पार पडला. त्यानंतरच्या प्रयोगांनाही ‘हाऊसफुल्ल’ प्रतिसाद मिळतोय. थोडक्यात, नव्या कलाकारांच्या संचातलं हे नाटक रंगमंचावर धुमशान घालतंय.
नाटकाने पुनरागमन केल्यापासून रसिक प्रेक्षकांसोबत चित्रपट आणि नाट्यसृष्टीतील मान्यवरही नाटक पाहायला आवर्जून जात आहेत. अलीकडेच दिग्दर्शक रवी जाधवनं हे नाटक पाहिलं. त्याविषयी तो म्हणतो, ‘माझ्यासाठी ‘वस्त्रहरण’ हा नॉस्टॅल्जिक करणारा अनुभव आहे. माझ्या वडिलांना हे नाटक फार आवडायचं. मच्छिंद्र कांबळी हे नाटक करत असताना मी ते १५-२० वेळा पाहिलं होतं.
VASTRAHARAN: A Landmark in Indian Theatre
Special 30 shows. Stellar star cast. A box office plan of Rs two lakh per show. First few shows houseful through advance booking. Audience applauding each and every line; so much so a two hour play duration stretches to three hours. Actors request audience to tone down their laugh so that they can complete the show in one theatre shift.
I manage to procure tickets twice through Chander Patil, who 'made-up' the late Machindra Kambli and his cast for almost 2, shows (of the 5, shows the play did); and then when the cast dwindled, Chander Patil had to perform shows as Shakuni Mama; since actors were not available.
What is VASTRAHARAN
VASTRAHARAN is a play I love and relish. I've seen it 17 times, excluding the two times in its latest avtaar. It still manages to surprise with its rustic verve and deliberately talent-less style.

Macchindra Kambli Biography
Macchindra Kambli was an accomplished theater personality associated with Marathi theatre. He was an actor, director, and producer, known for his instant timing in comedy and Malvani dialect. He has been one of the stage personalities who brought Malvani dialect of Maharashtra to stage plays and popularize it as well. He established Bhadrakali Productions known for its ethnic Malvani comedies. He died during his middle ages in He died of heart attack aged He also served as the president of Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Natya Parishad.
He was born in the year in Rewandi village, Sindhudurg. He lost his father at a very young age and he was raised by his mother. Passion drew kambli to theatre. He earned 15 rupees doing odd back-stage jobs. He hung curtains and ironed costumes as well. His first role was offered by Mohan Tondwalker in It was a bit role and thus began his acting career.

Machhindra Kambli dead
Noted Marathi stage artiste Machhindra Kambli died of heart attack at the age of 58 on Sunday. He was admitted at Das Hospital in Chembur after he complained of pain in his chest.
Kambli was scheduled to perform in his play ‘Bhaiya Hat Pay Pasri’ at Damodar Hall in Parel on Sunday evening. He is survived by a son and a daughter. His dead body will be cremated at Dadar crematorium on Monday at 10 am.
Kambli’s stage debut was through the popular Malwani play ‘Vastraharan’. His role in the play, ‘Tatya Sarpanch’, was widely appreciated. His other plays ‘Pandgo Ilo Re’, ‘Ghas Re Rama’, ‘Yewa Konkan Aaplach Asa’, ‘Maza Pati Chhatrapati’ were also popular.
Kambli established Bhadrakali Productions, a production institute. He played various roles in TV serials. He was also the president of Marathi Natya Parishad. He had unsuccessfully contested Lok Sabha election in Rajapur from Congress in against Shiv Sena’s Suresh Prabhu. Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh expressed deep sorrow over Kambli’s demise.
