Abdullah bin Zubair, Penguasa Mekkah dan Madinah yang Berakhir Tragis
Pada awalnya, Ibnu Zubair adalah pendukung kekhalifahan Muawiyah namun menolak penunjukan Yazid sebagai khalifah. Menurut pandangannya, Yazid bin Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufyan itu adalah laki-laki yang terakhir kali dapat menjadi khalifah Muslimin, seandainya memang dapat.
Pandangannya ini memang beralasan, karena dalam soal apa pun juga, Yazid tidak becus! Tidak satu pun kebaikan dapat menghapus dosa-dosanya yang diceritakan sejarah kepada kita, maka Ibnu Zubair pun menolak membai'at Yazid.
Kata-kata penolakannya terhadap Mu'awiyah amat keras dan tegas. Dan apa pula katanya kepada Yazid yang telah naik menjadi khalifah dan mengirim utusannya kepada Ibnu Zubair mengancamnya dengan nasib jelek apabila ia tidak membai'at pada Yazid. Ketika itu Ibnu Zubair memberikan jawabannya: "Kapan pun, aku tidak akan bai'at kepada si pemabok”.

Abd Allah al-Zubayr or Ibn Zubayr or Abdullah ibn az-Zubayr' ( - ) was a sahabi (Companion of the Prophet) whose father was Zubayr ibn al-Awwam, and whose mother was Asma bint Abi Bakr, daughter of the first CaliphAbu Bakr. Abdullah ibn Masud (ra) is not counted- as he is much senior badri sahabi while the above 4 abdullah are of same age.

Aside from being the Prophet’s own cousin, Abdullah bin Abbas was always around to assist the Prophet by preparing water for him to make wudhu (ablution) and to accompany him in his journeys. Wherever the Prophet s.a.w went, Abdullah bin Abbas was there with him.
